Residential Childcare Worker

Job Description

Residential Childcare Worker / Team Leader

Taunton & Wellington, Somerset
Full-Time | Permanent
Drivers Essential | Applicants Must Be Aged 21+

We are currently recruiting for Residential Child Care Workers and Team Leaders to join two established group living childrens homes based in Taunton and Wellington, Somerset.

The homes support children and young people aged 518 with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), providing a safe, structured and nurturing environment where young people can thrive. One home supports younger children, while the other supports older young people.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people. Our client is happy to consider candidates with transferable skills and the right attitude, even if they do not already hold a residential childcare qualification.

Salary
  • Residential Child Care Worker (Non-Qualified): Up to £33,200 per annum including sleep-ins
  • Residential Child Care Worker (Qualified): Up to £34,320 per annum including sleep-ins
  • Team Leader: Up to £35,980 per annum including sleep-ins

Sleep-ins are a mandatory part of the role and staff typically complete 68 sleep-ins per month.

Shift Pattern

This role involves working long shifts, sleep-ins and some weekends as part of a structured rolling rota.

Due to the longer shift pattern, the rota is more condensed, meaning staff benefit from fewer working days and more days off throughout the week compared to traditional shift patterns.

Staff also benefit from one long weekend off every three weeks, finishing Friday morning and not returning until Tuesday, providing an excellent work-life balance.

This position is well suited to candidates who prefer working longer shifts in exchange for increased time off.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting children and young people in a residential setting
  • Building positive and trusting relationships
  • Encouraging education, routines, independence and life skills
  • Managing challenging behaviours positively and professionally
  • Promoting safeguarding and emotional wellbeing

Requirements
  • Must be over 21 years old
  • Full UK driving licence essential
  • Passion for working with children and young people
  • Transferable skills welcomed from care, education, youth work, mental health, support work, sports coaching, security, prison services, military backgrounds and similar sectors
  • Team Leader applicants must hold Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification (or equivalent)

What Were Looking For

  • Positive role models
  • Strong communication skills
  • Reliable team players
  • People who genuinely want to make a difference

If you are passionate about supporting young people and want to join a rewarding and supportive environment, we would love to hear from you.
